ISO 45001:2018 is the new international occupational health and safety (OH&S) management system standard that signifies a significant step forward in the overall effort to improve occupational health and safety (OHS) worldwide. Published by the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO), the standard enables organisations to proactively improve injury prevention and reduce ill-health, while protecting their longevity.

With more than 70 countries involved in its development, ISO 45001 replaced a number of existing management system standards for Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S), including OHSAS 18001:2007 and AS/NZS 4801:2001, and came into force in March 2018.

The RCPAQAP has a long history of commitment to OH&S principles (now WHS in Australia) and is pleased to announce that certification to ISO 45001:2018 was recently achieved through BSI. This certification complements our existing conformance to ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 and implements the ISO ‘ high-level structure’, giving it a common framework with these other management systems. ISO 45001 places greater emphasis on the responsibility of senior management, an aspect that has already been implemented in the revised ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards.

As a measure of commitment to this new standard, the RCPAQAP is determined to improve its WHS performance by managing WHS risks and opportunities, eliminating hazards, cultivating active participation of all workers, and ensuring the health, safety and wellbeing for our staff, visitors and contractors.

This achievement is significant for the RCPAQAP and we are now in a select group of businesses worldwide who have achieved certification to each of these international management system standards.
